Have you ever wondered who reads submissions to magazines? What editors are seeking? How to avoid rejection? In short, how to get past the slush pile? Dana Norris is here to help! Dana will lead our upcoming Writers Night Out Workshop: Shine Through the Slush which takes place on Monday, August 5 at 6:30 p.m.
Dana is best known for being the founder and host of Story Club and she’s been active in the city’s Live Lit scene for years. Her writing has also been published in such literary journals as The Rumpus, McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, and Triquarterly Online.
Dana says, “[Writers] will learn how to better position themselves to increase their chances of being chosen for publication. The biggest misconception people have about the slush pile is that every piece of work will be read in entirety…literary magazines are usually understaffed and the slush is read by volunteers who can only spend a few minutes on each piece.”
