5 Things We’re Looking Forward to This Weekend

The 2013 Chicago Writers Conference is almost here, and we can barely contain our excitement! Though we are confident that every scheduled session will be informative and motivating, there are a few elements of this year’s conference that stand out. In no particular order, here are the top 5 things we’re looking forward to at CWC 2013.

1) Experiencing Great Chicago Talent

The city is known for its literary legacy and its thriving Live Lit scene. Attendees will have the chance to see it in action at our kick-off party and our after-conference event Chicago Writers/Chicago Readers. Both events are free and open to the public. Find out who will be reading here.

2) Applying Our Networking Skills

Writers are stereotyped as being loners with little social skills. Here’s your chance to prove the world wrong! Conferences are a great opportunity to make meaningful relationships that can further your career. Unsure of what is and isn’t appropriate in this setting? 3) Learning From our Keynote Speakers

We are honored that the very accomplished Rick Kogan and Alex Shakar will join us at CWC. Rick is a born and bred Chicagoan who has worked for the city’s major newspapers, published dozens of books, and is part of the Chicago Journalism Hall of Fame. Alex ‘s novels have won a myriad of accolades including the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Fiction.

4) Participating in Pitchfest

This is the first year CWC is offering Pitchfest, an exclusive opportunity to get feedback from a literary professional-and it probably won’t be our last. Since our main mission is to help you succeed, we hope this sold-out event brings writers one step closer to achieving their goals.

5) Fostering a Community of Chicago Writers

We believe in this city, its talent, and its ability to be a literary hub. We are thrilled to meet new colleagues who are part of Chicago’s supportive community of writers.
