Five Chicago Romance Writers
You Must Read

Maligned by some but beloved by many, many more, Romance has been keeping the publishing industry afloat for decades. Those in the know understand that this genre is as multifaceted and varied as any other. In honor of Valentine’s Day, here are some amazing Chicago-area romance writers that will heat up this never-ending winter:

The Award Winner: Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Phillips has won so many awards that listing them all would take up several blog posts. Suffice to say that her novel, Call Me Irresistible, was named by Library Journal as one of the Best Romance Books of 2011, selected by Booklist Online as one of the Top 10 Romance Fiction: 2011 and was nominated for RT Reviewers Choice Best Book Awards 2011 Contemporary Romance. Its follow-up, The Great Escape, was also selected as one of the Top Romances of 2012 by Library Journal.

The Multitasker: Carrie Lofty/Katie Porter/Lindsey Piper

Author Carrie Lofty has received rave reviews for books under her own name, but her alter egos also enjoy very successful careers. Katie Porter, the pen name she shares with co-writer Lorelie Brown, writes “sinfully sexy erotic romance.” In 2014, the duo plan on releasing a military-themed series called Command Force Alpha.

The Paranormal Romance Writer: Hanna Martine

Martine brings an exciting twist in paranormal writing with her Elementals series, which includes corporate intrigue, mercenaries and, of course, elemental magic.

The YA Hit: Erica O’Rourke

O’Rourke’s trilogy, Torn, is about a girl who is drawn into a war with the Chicago mob and a magical secret society in New Orleans. Bound, the final book in the trilogy, was a finalist for the Romance Writers of America’s RITA┬« Award for Young Adult Romance.

The Regency Enthusiast: Jennifer Ann Coffeen

A CWC 2013 panelist and all-around lovely person, Coffeen’s books delve into the world of 19th Century romance. Her books Priceless Deception and Lover’s Gamble are available from The Wild Rose Press.

With so much talent in this city, I’m sure we’ve overlooked so many other wonderful authors. Post your favorites in the comment section!
