Recap: World Book Night 2014

Our sold-out World Book Night mixer with Chicago Women in Publishing was a huge success! The Book Cellar was a great spot for writers, editors, and other literary types to convene.

CWC Social Media Coordinator and our official book giver walked around the Lincoln Square neighborhood to hand out free books. Her winning opening phrase: “I swear I’m not being creepy.”

CWC Founder Mare Swallow and CWIP Executive Director Kim Bookless welcomed the crowd and spoke about how their organizations can help writers of all stages in their career.

Patricia Skalka, a 2012 CWC alum, read from her debut novel Death Stalks Door County. We couldn’t be more proud of all her success!

Special guest Scott Turow read from the WBN2014 pick, Presumed Innocent. Before doing so, he regaled the audience with stories of his own path as a writer. “Before Presumed Innocent, I had a career as a failed novelist.”

Afterwards, guests had a chance to mix and mingle, get some new books, and even have them autographed.

Thanks again to everyone involved for a fantastic event! A special thanks to Elliot Mandel for the beautiful photographs.

Our upcoming event, An Evening With The Dissolve, is almost sold out. Get your free ticket today!
