April 28 – Bad Poetry Night
Celebrate the cream of the crap! Mare Swallow, CWC’s Founder and Executive Director, hosts Bad Poetry Night at The Book Cellar. This year, we’re featuring Chicago producers and creators. Readers who are brave enough to read crappy literature (out loud) include:
- Inés Bellina of XX Will Travel
- Noah Cruickshank of Open Books
- Susan Dennison of CWC
- Andrew Huff of Tuesday Funk
- Felix Jung of avoision
- James Kennedy of the 90-Second Newbery Film Festival
- Eden Robins of Tuesday Funk
- Angel Simmons of Do Not Submit – Englewood
- Mike Stephen of Outside the Loop Radio
Join us for this free event and some awful poetry and literature. This being an election year, you can expect some gems from candidates and the women who (at one point) loved them.
Bonus: The Book Cellar has a café and wine bar, so there’s some libation sure to make this evening tolerable.
This evening, with all its bad prose, is presented in conjunction with the Northwestern University School of Professional Studies, MA/MFA in Creative Writing.

The 2016 Chicago Writers Conference
The annual Chicago Writers Conference celebrates its fifth year downtown at Conference Chicago! Out of town attendees can stay nearby at Hotel Blake, where we’ll have a special rate for attendees.
Topics for 2016 include Writing Unlikable Characters, How to Pitch, our popular Panel of Agents, and, of course, Pitchfest, where you can pitch your book idea to an agent or editor.
